Crash Involving Work Van Leaves Man With Serious Injury In Westchester

Police are investigating a crash in Westchester that left a man hospitalized with a severe injury and caused a busy road to close for several hours. 

The crash happened in New Rochelle at the intersection of North Avenue and Mayflower Avenue.

The crash happened in New Rochelle on Tuesday, Oct. 2 just after 2 p.m., when a motorcycle and utility work van collided in the area of North Avenue and Mayflower Avenue, New Rochelle Police Captain J. Collins Coyne said on Friday, Oct. 4. 

Arriving officers found the motorcyclist, a 60-year-old New Rochelle man, with a serious injury to his left leg that was being tended to by a passerby who had seen the collision. Police then applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. 

The motorcyclist was soon taken to Jacobi Medical Center to undergo surgery on his left leg. He is now in stable condition. 

The driver of the utility work van was not injured, police said.

The crash caused North Avenue to close between 5th Avenue and Eastchester Road for around three hours on Tuesday. It is now under investigation by the department's traffic unit.
